Yoko Ono - Q & A

Yey!! Yoko Ono answered more questions. These are the ones from last week I sent, but I'm not complaining. I'm genuinely so happy, I haven't been in a good mood today and this has cheered me right up. It really is the simple things in life. Yoko Ono is such an inspiring woman. She is an ambassador for peace, a great artist and a talented musician. I'm so grateful she picked my questions and does her Q & A sessions. -BL

Portuguese Man-O-War

Portuguese Man-O-War is my favorite animal, well its not really an animal! Its 5 different organisms joint together to create a living breathing functioning animal. It boggles me, I tried 2 different techniques both using collage but with different materials and textures. I wanted to use blues because the portuguese man-o-war is transparent almost and with it living in the sea its going to be blue. I hope you enjoy it and I would like to apologize for not updating it recently as my parents have been away on holiday also I have been trying out some new things, you'll just have to wait and see ;) -BL

MEL the Sloth

I saw they cutest video on youtube the other day of a sloth just flailing around, aww, bless it. I really want one as a pet now, I would love to look after it and as a positive it sleeps like 18 hours a day. The only bad thing is them gigantic claws! With this in mind i just done a quick little sketch of what I can remember it looking like. It may not be accurate, I hope you like it. -BL

The Hound of Baskerville

last night when I was going to bed I seen my little black labrador, Prince, at the bottom of the stairs aimlessly staring. I seen how dynamic the shot might be because of the perspective of the walls. His eyes glowed when I took the photo due to the flash and It reminded me of the Sherlock Holmes book - The Hound of Baskerville. Hope you like the photo. -BL

Lady GaGa Newcastle Metro Radio Arena - 4th March 2010.

That night was one of the best nights of my life. We got just in time to hear the last couple of songs from the first support act, semi-precious weapons. They where ok, but I wasn't really familiar with them. 20 minutes later Alphabeat (first picture) started playing, being a bit of a fan I knew all the songs that they played. I was amazed at how good they were live and they played all of my favorite songs. It definitely put me in the mood for GaGa. After 40 minutes of Michael Jackson the intro to GaGa's dancing in the dark started, it was electrifying, everyone roared with excitement. A huge silhouette on a white sheet were seen of GaGa posing to the beat of the music, (picture 2), I was blown away. I couldn't believe it was happening. It was one of the most surreal moments in my life. She was everything I expected and more. She had amazing crowd interaction, she played nearly every song of both albums, to perfection I may add. Her set was fantastic, she pulled out all the stops, 3 storied industrial buildings, a car with a piano in the bonnet, a piano with a blaze of fire changing shape every second, an overgrown spindly forest, a fountain leaking blood and then setting ablaze. the theme of "The Monster Ball" was loosely based on the wizard of oz, following a glitter path, a dark dense forest after landing from a twister, which was represented amazing light show which was falling and spinning from the sky above, in the twister she changed into a dress that appeared to come alive! She managed to change about 11 or 12 times at least though the 2 hour show. her outfits ranged from a latex nun-esque look, leather studded underwear and a silver spaceman suit complete with rotating orbit. Near the end of the night when she was close to finding "The Monster Ball" she was singing paparazzi to then turn around and find a 40 foot monster with tentacles, long sharp fangs and bulbous eyes. Everything done through out the night was amazing and she surprised me so many times, this is an understatement to say it was amazing, but I just can't put it in words. It was GaGa. -BL

Star-sign : Leo

My star-sign is Leo, so i decided experiment with different media and ways I could portray Leo. My first reaction to leo was obviously the lion, but i wanted to feature characteristics that Leos generally have. In the end i decided to use a lions head as the base using collage, then placing the features, which are based on my features, onto the face. I hope you like it. -BL

El Diablo.

in my recent pieces there have been no vibrant color choices; I decided to do yet another "Self-Portrait", this time I went back to basics and used crayons. Crayons are mainly used with children, I am a big child. I like the rough, edgey effect given to the piece, it shows a sense of my personality. The inspiration behind the eyes was from looking at the patterns on the neck of a cobra and how they are used to confuse prey. I thought it would be a good idea to try and incorporate something similar on to my face and give it an animalistic property. -BL

Yoko Ono - Q & A

Every friday I send Yoko Ono a few questions via twitter, every 3 out of 4 weeks she answers at least one. I've never thought of putting them on to my blog, until now. Here is the recent ones she just answered 10 minutes ago. 4 of them are mine! She is a very wise and insightful person, it I'm highly appreciative of the time she takes every friday to answer my own and everyone else's questions, so thank you. -BL

Is that, No, It can't be? DOM

Just a little, quick sketch I done of my fellow class mate, Dom. I was just experimenting with the different marks you can make using charcoal. I tried to get a variety of tone by smudging the charcoal and highlighting detail using jagged, quick, sharp lines. -BL

Ps. Lady GaGa photos will be uploaded tomorrow!

la théière peu de bleu

Its my little blue teapot, an experimental piece before I done my self-portrait (yesterdays piece). I used a variety of media, such as watercolors, acrylic paint, oil pastels and chalk pastels. I just like the color more than anything else its very vibrant and psychedelic. The brush strokes where to complement the fact that the teapot was a good 80 year old, it was warn and made from brass. -BL

Anti-Christ Superstar: Marilyn Manson

To get my "hit" of inspiration I always look at people who have became a part of pop culture because of the way they dress/opinions/talent. Currently I've been fixated with Marilyn Manson, He's a fucking genius. I love everything about him his witty but smart opinions, his shock value as an artist and entertainer and I've been fixated with his art work. I love the his art work because of the big red lips, I'm not going to lie. Also I like the eyes, they have this very alluring hazy quality to them that draw you in. The way his watercolors bleed into each other to create a real depth which is a great technique and adds character to the piece. I'm feeling in the mood to experiment with watercolors, even though I usually despise using them. Wish me luck! -BL

I'm Blue Da-ba-De-Da-ba-Di.

I was messing around trying to mix different media and this was my favorite mixture of Felt Tip Pen, Watercolors and Tissue paper. I chose to use blue because at the moment its my favorite color, I think it has brought a certain coldness to it, which isn't necessarily a bad thing given the look on my face in the picture. I loved combing watercolors and felt pens as it gives this beautiful bleeding quality to the piece which just really adds character. I hope you like it. -BL

Self-Portrait: 6 Months Ago

Oh god! A drawing I done a couple of months ago, before I got all my hair chopped off! Bless me! The technique used for this was through cross-hatching. Any tone or line seen is made up from little lines cross-hatched and spaced to create darker and lighter tones. Compare it to tomorrows piece and see how I've changed! -BL
